Home Care in Aksarben, Omaha, NE

Homewatch CareGivers of West Omaha provides in-home care for families in the Aksarben area and the neighborhoods around Aksarben Village. Bringing a caregiver into a parent's or spouse's life is a major decision, and we treat it that way. No two people need the same thing, so we start every care plan from scratch instead of pulling from a template.

Keeping Aksarben Routines Going

Aging in place should mean keeping the parts of life your loved one still enjoys. In Aksarben, that might be a summer Sunday at the Omaha Farmers Market, a walk around Stinson Park or an afternoon movie at Aksarben Cinema. Our caregivers can come along, and they handle the work at home that has gotten harder: meals, laundry, bathing, getting dressed, remembering medications.

The first days after a hospital stay are often the hardest stretch. If your parent is coming home from CHI Health Bergan Mercy, a short drive from Aksarben Village, we can have help in place when they walk through the door. Care can often start within a few days of your first call.

A Local, Family-Owned Location

Andrew and Tara Mattson own and run Homewatch CareGivers of West Omaha, the first Homewatch location in Nebraska. They opened it after a family member was diagnosed with dementia and they saw how much depends on the person who shows up each day. The business runs on four values they call C.A.R.E.: compassion, authenticity, respect and empathy. You can read more of their story.

Care Plans Made for Families, Not a Generic Template

We match caregivers to clients on more than skill and availability. Personality and interests count too, because a caregiver who shares your mom's love of gardening or old movies makes the day better for both of them. From there, our team sits down with the client, the family and their medical providers to build a plan around real health needs and daily routines.

Care plans are reviewed every 30 days, so the plan keeps up when something changes.

Training and Background Checks

Our caregivers train through the Homewatch CareGivers Academy, which covers the health conditions and caregiving situations they'll face on the job. Once they join the team, they complete at least 12 hours of continuing education every year. Caregivers can also go further with Homewatch's dementia care training.

Every caregiver passes a background check, including criminal history and driving records, before they're matched with a client. We run that check again every year. Homewatch CareGivers has been doing this work since 1980, and that experience shapes how we hire and train.
